Hi Friends!
My name is Jenna Jones and I am the instructor here at Seaside Pilates. I have been a Pilates Instructor for the past 4 years and currently teach Reformer Pilates at Southport Pilates in North Carolina. While having the opportunity to primarily teach Reformer Pilates is a dream come true on every level, I opened Seaside Pilates to honor how the practice of Mat Pilates, specifically, has really changed my life.
Pilates is a method developed in the early 1920’s by Joseph Pilates and was originally called, Contrology. By connecting the mind to the body and the body to the breath, Pilates offers an opportunity for total transformation of mind, body and soul. I came into the practice back in 2019, on the eve of a pandemic I never saw coming. Finding myself facing one obstacle after another while being excruciatingly far from many friends and all of my family, at times, seemed unbearable.
I had begun Pilates Teacher Training with Club Pilates while holding the position of GM at a brand new studio in March of 2020. With my reformer studio closed and remote classes the only option, pushed to finish my Teacher Training on the mat. And that is where everything changed. Never in my life did I imagine my personal, professional or spiritual life being in such disarray shortly after the pandemic’s onset, but I took it ALL to the mat.
I gave myself the gift of breath, of movement, of joy, of release, of time … the list goes on and on … all on the MAT. Sometimes I did Pilates on the mat to a video, sometimes with folks live on zoom— sometimes with my camera on— most times with my camera off sobbing. I came to the mat no matter what. Tired, angry, scared, joyful, excited, unsure … whatever the wind blew in by way of emotions, anything and everything found it’s way on the mat.
Since finishing my Teacher Training, and earning my 500-Hour Comprehensive Certification, I have taught over 2000 classes across 12 different Club Pilates studios and have trained clients both in one-on-one and remote settings. I truly believe that the practice of Pilates, with its focus on optimizing spine health through core strengthening, has the ability to reshape a person from the inside out. Coupled with the support and love of your Pilates peeps, the sky is really the limit. Please believe, the struggle will ALWAYS BE REAL, and there is always work to be done. But, the practice of Pilates and the Seaside community reminds me that I can do anything I set my mind, body and soul to -- and I hope the practice does the same for you!

*Full Body Flow Join me for a full body workout as you cruise into or out of your weekend activities! All movements are geared to reduce pain, strengthen your core and clear your mind of the week's chatter!
*Restoration Station gives your eyes a screen break and your body an opportunity to actively recover muscles and release toxins through gentle and active stretches. This class also offers guidance on foam rolling and trigger
Pilates is a low impact movement modality that focuses on aligning the spine through strengthening the core. Pilates can be practiced anywhere and is recommended for all body types as a means to lengthen, strengthen and tighten all of the muscles in your body!

While parting with the beach that tugs at my heartstrings was sad, it was time, both personally and professionally for me, to settle permanently in Southport. While I am super excited to be cuddled and cozy this fall and winter, I am always eager to get back to moving in the sun and sand! Pilates is a low-impact, movement modality that focuses on optimizing spinal health through targeted strengthening of your core muscles. Created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's, and originally called Contrology, the practice of Pilates works to help connect your mind to your body and your movement to your breath. The practice of Pilates can be done anywhere by anyone - regardless of age, gender or proximity to a studio; and a regular practice of the exercises has the capacity to bring a myriad of mental, physical and spiritual benefits into your life! Joseph Pilates was inspired to create the method based on his own ailments, which he was able to completely overcome through the practice and came to truly embody the full healing capacity of the practice. According to him, "Change happens through movement and movement heals."
As with any new fitness journey, it is always important to be cleared by your doctor in the event you are recovering from surgery, pregnancy or an accident of any kind, before beginning. One of the most wonderful things about mat pilates is it can be done ANYWHERE and without ANY equipment! Modifications can be made for ANY exercise and since the practice of Pilates relies on a mind/body connection, you learn to troubleshoot aches and pains safely, in the privacy of your own home. To quote our founder, Joseph Pilates, "Every moment of you life can be the beginning of great things."
*All classes here at Seaside Pilates are open to anyone wanting to attend. One of my favorite things about Pilates is you are able to start with a foundational exercise and add up to an individual's threshold. I would recommend that all beginners to the practice start with The Full Body Flow, Deep Stretch and Flow and the After Work Rehab class. If you are interested in more mat time, it is only recommended that you combine the Full Body Flow and Deep Stretch and Flow in a 24 hour period as a beginner.
*Since Pilates is a low impact practice you can do it EVERY DAY! In my professional opinion, adding 2 sessions of Pilates weekly is necessary to really feel the benefits on a daily basis. However, I can attest to the fact that Joseph Pilates was spot on when he said, "In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a new body."
